OHIO TURNPIKE BRIDGE METALIZED WITH ZINC

Field Metalized Structure

This bridge is located on the Ohio Turnpike (Interstate Route 80) near Toledo between Exits 5 and 5A. The bridge carries the Turnpike over a CSX rail line.

The end spans are 10 feet above the sloping embankment and the center span is about 25 feet high over ground level and the railroad track.

Coating:

Surface Preparation: SSPC-SP 5, White Metal Blast, and 2 to 4 mil surface profile.
Metalized Coating Thickness: 11 mils (.011”) average
Metalized Coating Material: Pure zinc
Sealer: Clear phenolic.
Area Metalized: 23,000 square feet (estimated)
Date Metalized: July 2001

Contract Masters, Inc. of Dover, Ohio metalized 23,000 square feet of steel within 4 weeks, including time lost to bad weather. Note that Contract Masters has been in the metalizing business for more than 30 years. During that time, the company has metalized scores of structures of this size and larger, both in shop and in the field.

Contractor experience does matter. Experienced contractors are able to provide good references. It is the owner’s responsibility to check them!
